Founded in 1984 by a small group of enthusiasts, The Bury Standard 4 Group
had the original aim of purchasing BR Standard class 4 tank No. 80097
from Woodham's of Barry with the intention of restoring it for use on the East
Lancashire Railway. Since then, the group has expanded and now owns a second
ex Barry locomotive, Ivatt class 2 mogul No. 46428, a fleet of freight wagons,
a sales coach, and a loco shed and engineering workshop.
